A narrow course, long between tee and green. Keep it straight and you will enjoy the layout without losing too many balls.
A Bob Spence/Tom Jackson design, Crowfield Plantation is the epitome of Charleston daily-fee golf. With a layout that winds its way through the deep hardwoods of what once was known as Middleton Plantation, golfers get a voyage through a rolling course showing off the best of the Charleston landscape.
Played from the tips, Crowfield Plantation plays an imposing 6,964 yards with a 141-slope rating. The trees surrounding the course may be beautiful, but a trip into them could cause all types of problems for a golfer's scorecard.
"Crowfield is beautiful but definitely has some bite," said a TravelGolf.com writer. "Those trees and vegetation that are so calming to look at can also swallow a ball in no time."
Still, luckily for the putting challenged, Spence wasn't much of a putter himself, it seems, and several of the greens have advantageous slopes to help trickle the ball to the hole. A bit of research into the greens can easily shave a couple of strokes off your score.
