The only one of its kind in the southeast United States—and distinctly different from the Nicklaus course—the Colleton River Pete Dye Course is a stunning links-type course that has unobstructed views of Port Royal Sound and the Atlantic Ocean from 11 of its 18 holes. Stretching over 7,300 yards, it plays through dense Lowcountry forest as well as open scenic wetlands—and common to many of Dye's designs, it features small, undulating greens that are well-protected by pot bunkers.
In 1999, it was selected by Golf Digest as "One of the Top Ten New Courses in the U.S." and was later selected by GOLF Magazine as "One of the Top 100 Greatest Courses in the U.S." The legendary designer himself—known for building some of the most challenging courses in the world including TPC at Sawgrass, Kiawah's Ocean Course, Whistling Straits, the Stadium Course at PGA West and Harbour Town—describes his course at Colleton River as "the best course I have ever built." The Dye course regularly hosts major tournaments like the South Carolina Amateur, US Amateur Qualifier, and the US Open Qualifier.
The Dye Course is not only challenging but also breathtakingly beautiful: two integral reasons why Academy Award-winner Robert Redford chose this course to film the pivotal and iconic scenes of his movie, The Legend of Bagger Vance.
