The course rating is 72.3 and the slope is 133. The layout features 4 sets of tee boxes for the enjoyment of golfers of all skill levels.

Papaw was designed by one of South Carolina's best known architects, The Breeden. Course incorporates a number of lakes and woodland, the greens are large and undulating with finely contoured fairways. Pawpaw’s signature hole is number 16., a 517-yard par-5 that features a tee shot across a lake and a lone pine tree in the middle of the fairway to discourage going for the deep but narrow, well-guarded green in two shots.
