Chautauqua Golf Club, is a Resort, 36 hole golf facility located in Chautauqua, New York. The facility boasts two 18 hole golf courses. They are The Lakes Course and The Hills Course. The history of golf at Chautauqua Golf Club taces back to 1898 when a links course was laid out. The first nine holes opened in 1914. The Donald Ross designed Lakes Course opened in 1924. The addition of the Hill Course, was completed in 1994. The Hill Course was designed by Xen Hassenplug.
The Lake Course is more wide open than the Hill Course. A difficult shot is needed on hole #6, a 145-yard, par 3, requiring a carry over water to a well-bunkered green. The Lake Course is characterized by open tee shots and demanding approaches to small, often steeply sloped greens.
The Hill Course is heavily wooded and features narrower fairways and larger greens that aren't as sloping as the ones on the Lake Course. Hole #3, a 374-yard, par 4, has both trees and water down the left side of the fairway to avoid. With a commanding view of both Chautauqua Lake and the rolling hills of the surrounding countryside, this course rewards good shot placement and features tree-lined fairways, frequent dog-legs, and small but more gently sloped greens.
