Alec Guion worked with course designer Ellis Maples to create a masterful course and club that would attract family and friends of all golfing abilities. On a beautiful day in the early 1960's, Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, and Gary Player were invited to tee it up in an exhibition at a new golf course in a rural part of Mecklenburg County. The crowd that came that day was made up largely of folks who played Cedarwood regularly. There was a spirit of camaraderie among them that exists still today.
The area surrounding Cedarwood is no longer rural. It has since acquired many neighbors, including the affluent Arboretum and Ballantyne areas, just minutes away. When the decision to become private was made, it was agreed that the character and personality of the club remain unchanged. It was to be a family oriented and reasonably priced. Cedarwood is indeed a family club, with a host of activities beyond golf. You will find that Cedarwood Country Club is a place where you and your children can make friends easily, and make the club experience an important part of your life.
