In 1916 Birmingham Country Club was founded as Birmingham Golf Club. At the time, a group of six far-sighted local businessmen purchased the Case farm which consisted of 161 acres of rolling land with trees, hills and valleys with a stream running through it. Their original intent was to create a real estate development, but, the natural beauty of the site persuaded them to build a golf course instead.
The original clubhouse was a white farmhouse on Northlawn across from the 18th fairway. In time, this was replaced by a wooden frame clubhouse built on the course grounds north of the present Grille Room by the putting green. Things went well in the early years and the club's financial position was so strong that a new clubhouse was authorized. On March 30, 1930, our current English style facility was opened.
